Peace Mission Center

Welcome to Peace Mission Center! We look forward to hosting you and your group while you volunteer in the Greater New Orleans area. We are privileged to serve our great God as volunteers in this mission. Our primary purpose is to radiate the love of Jesus Christ. We prayerfully invest ourselves in this mission, and endeavor to honor God in all we do by serving those in need.

Who We Are

Peace Mission Center

Peace Mission Center is a joint operation of Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) and the Lutheran Churches of the New Orleans East / Slidell area. The facilities and work are primarily funded, supplied, and maintained through LDR, under the “umbrella” of Lutheran Social Service of the South Lutheran Social Services of the South, which is the Louisiana unit of Lutheran Disaster Response nationally as well as Lutheran World Relief – Human Care, and the Orphan Grain Train. In addition, we receive direct support, equipment, supplies and funds from other organizations and hundreds of individuals around the country.

Peace Mission Center Accommodations

Church Main Building: Main Building BedroomsOn the second floor of our main building, we have five bedrooms that house about 40 volunteers. Each of the bedrooms is equipped with bunk beds (including linens, pillows, and towels.) There are two full bathrooms within the church building. Those unable to traverse non-handicap accessible facilities may have difficulties staying in the main building.

Linens, towels and pillows are provided as they are in the church building. This facility has six bathrooms and showers (three for men, three for women).

Private RV's: We have several sites available if you would like to utilize your own private RV. Electrical and water hook ups are provided and we can flush your holding tank, however we are not able to provide propane. We ask a suggested donation of $100.00 per week for the use of these sites. Please let the guest coordinator know ahead of time if these are your plans so that we can reserve a space for you.

Other Amenities: A shower trailer with shower stalls (2 female and 2 male) is also on site for your use, as well as a full kitchen with ice maker and laundry facilities. We also have a community room in the main building with a sectional sofa, six computer terminals with internet access, wireless internet and a big screen TV with satellite TV service. Outside we offer a fire pit (fire wood not provided), a field for outdoor sports and activities and a screened in Gazebo for your use.

Meals

Breakfast: We are happy to provide a Continental Breakfast Monday-Friday which can be located in the Mission Center. We offer a selection of fruits, cereals, juice and coffee, bread, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, and condiments.

Lunch: If the organization you are volunteering with does not provide lunch for you while you are on site Monday-Friday, we will. We will place lunch items out so that you and your group can make sandwiches to take with you. Lunch items include bread, cold cuts, chips, snack/desert, and a piece of fruit. We do have a few ice chests available on a first come first serve basis that you may borrow. You may also utilize your own ice chests. Please feel free to use the ice maker to fill your ice chests.

Dinner: We provide dinner to out volunteers every evening Monday-Friday starting at 6p.m. in the Mission Center. Please let us know 24 hours in advance if your group will not be eating with on a particular night so that we can make adjustments to our menu. On the nights that we are not cooking or if you would like to dine out, please let us know if you would like any suggestions for any of the many restaurants in the Greater New Orleans area.
